First Grand Cru Classé of the Official Classification of 1855

Château MARGAUX is one of those Grands Crus which make the reputation of the wines of the Bordeaux region and more particularly of the Left Bank, in the Médoc.
At the end of the 17th century, Château MARGAUX occupied the position it still occupies today: 262 hectares, a third of which is occupied by vineyards. This important period for MARGAUX, described as the “golden century”, marked the beginning of the recognition of the Grand Cru beyond the borders thanks to the influence of the English and the Dutch. From then on, its rise was only to begin and its reputation was confirmed by the title of “Premier Grand Cru Classé” in the official classification of 1855, Margaux being the only one of the four châteaux presented to have obtained a score of twenty out of twenty
